Viile Metamorfosis Feteasca Regala 2020 75cl

£12.50

Tasting Note

A lovely savoury character working through the citrus pith like fruit. There is white pepper to it, with a hedgerow (hawthorn, nettle and elderflower) like flavour. Kinda reminds me of a few English wines I've tried, but being from Romania, it is half the price!

Producer

Established in 1949, Viile Metamorfosis was originally part of Vinalcool Prahova wineries, and during the communist period, a lot of wine was vinified at this property. It was then acquired by British company, Halewood in the late 1990s, before a majority stake being bought by Marquis Antinori in 2009. There is another shareholder, owning 30%, which is the Rista Family. Fiorenzo Risa is the winemaker and development manager, and a really lovely chap.

Originally from Alba, he went to Romania in 1998 to make wine, and ended up at Metamorfosis. He started with 15 hectares in 2008, and now has a hundred more, focusing on indigenous varieties.
