Viile Metamorfosis Merlot 2018 75cl

£12.75

Tasting Note

Bright red fruit, a lot of delicate floral notes, hints of roses. The palate is bright with a lovely soft fruit driven note - an aged note there too, pipe tobacco, nuts, meat juices and a spicy note on the end with a warmth of alcohol. Very good.

Producer

Established in 1949, Viile Metamorfosis was originally part of Vinalcool Prahova wineries, and during the communist period, a lot of wine was vinified at this property. It was then acquired by British company, Halewood in the late 1990s, before a majority stake being bought by Marquis Antinori in 2009. There is another shareholder, owning 30%, which is the Rista Family. Fiorenzo Risa is the winemaker and development manager, and a really lovely chap.

Originally from Alba, he went to Romania in 1998 to make wine, and ended up at Metamorfosis. He started with 15 hectares in 2008, and now has a hundred more, focusing on indigenous varieties.
