Casa Montes Alzamora Reserva Malbec 2016 75cl

£14.00

Tasting Note

The nose is complex where fragrances of red fruits like sour cherries, plums and strawberries are mixed. It displays notes of vanilla and caramel, contributed by its aging in oak barrels. It is an agreeable wine, with good structure and a long finish. Used to be called Intenso, now called Alzamora.... for some reason!

Producer

Don Francisco Montes, an Andalucian immigrant, founded Casa Montes Bodegas & Viñedos in the San Juan provenance in 1992, marking the pioneering trait of the family.

Situated in ideal climate conditions, Casa Montes achieves the health and good maturation of diverse grape varietals, highlighting Viognier and Chardonnay in their white grapes, and for red grapes, Malbel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Tannat, Cabernet Franc, Syrah and others.

Complementing their strong agriculture, Bodegas and Viñedos Casa Montes possesses a cellar which is at the forefront of technology, with the capacity to contain over 3 million litres in stainless steel tanks and a completely automised temperature control system that allows the control of all of the elaboration processes and maintain the important diversity between wine ranges. The technology comes from France and allows them the capacity to process 150,000 kg of grapes per day.

The vines themselves range in age, the oldest being from 1994 and the youngest from 1997. The whole farm is irrigated using a pressure drip. To do this, water from the mountain is collected in a reservoir, holding approximately 35 million litres.
