Although it is classified as a Cru Bourgouis, Chateau Chasse-Spleen regularly outperforms some of the renowned classed growths. Now run by Claire Villars, the Chateau has vineyards on a variety of different plots, ranging from deep gravel to clay-limestone.
Not only does this chateau have a curious name, it has an interesting take on what a chateau should be. The owners have incorporated a rotating gallery of emerging artists' work on their grounds. Chasse-Spleen does not feel bound to the past as some of the more nostalgic chateaux do; they are forward-thinking and innovative.
Bouquet creamy red and dark forest fruits. Same on the palate, some chocolate, good acidity and round, slightly sticky tannin and soft bitterness in the finish. In its young maturity...
