Chateau Margaux

MARGAUX, BORDEAUX, FRANCE

If you think Bordeaux, you think Chateau Margaux and rightly so. As one of only four wines to achieve Premier cru status in the Bordeaux Classification of 1855 this is a Chateau producing fantastic and incredibly reliable, quality wine.

The history of the Chateau can be traced back to the 12th Century when it was a fortified castle but it wasn’t until the 16th Century when the Lestonnac family took over that wine production began in earnest. The family continued to own it (under various surnames) until the French Revolution scuppered the lineage by guillotining the owner (Elie du Barry).

Since that unfortunate incident the Chateaux has gone from strength to strength with only one blip being when a bottle of Chateaux Margaux 1787 was broken costing $225,000 – a world record which they still hold today.
