Eagles Nest

Established by Simon van der Stel in the late 1600's, Eagles Nest was once a section of the Groot Constantia estate, it is now in the hands of the Mylrea family and has been since 1984.

Eagles Nest was established in 2000 after a fire destroyed the commercially planted pine forests and the opportunity to develop the area as vineyards presented itself.  

Martin Meinert has overseen the viticulture and winemaking since the start, and is now handing the reins over to young winemaker Stuart Botha.  The Constantia region is well known for its Sauvignon Blanc, but this farm has none, planting mainly Bordeaux reds and Shiraz.  The only white available is Viognier, planted only because Executive Director Peter Stewart is a big fan of the grape, and (almost accidentally) it is a great example of what the South African soil can do for this Rhone white grape.
