Just north of 40 years old, Canadian Patrick Piuze's family didn't have anything to do with wine, yet when he was 18, he met Marc Chapoutier who helped him get started in the trade.
After working in wineries in Australia, South Africa and Israel, Patrick went home to Quebec and started a wine bar called 'Le Pinot Noir' in Montreal. After two years, the call back to the vineyards became too much to ignore, and he went to Burgundy, joining Olivier Leflaive in Puligny-Montrachet for a harvest, before being entrusted with Leflaive's Chablis winemaking.
Moving to Jean-Marc Brocard a year later, Piuze decided he needed to start his own winery, and did so in 2008. He doesn't own any vineyards, but works with the grower to make sure he gets what he needs. Building long term partnerships is vital to make sure you always get the best fruit, and this allows him to pick the highest quality lots of grapes in Chablis.
