Villiera

STELLENBOSCH, SOUTH AFRICA

Named after the farms previous owners, the de Villiers family, this 400 hectare estate has around 200 hectares of vines.  Viticulturalist Simon Grier is a keen supporter of maintaining an environmental balance, so hasn't sprayed insecticides for over a dozen years and a flock of Peking ducks (minus hoisin sauce) are a natural pest control.

The Griers also contribute to a social upliftment program, providing day care and education for the farm workers families.

Villiera is a specialist for bottle-fermented Methode Cap Classiques sparkling wines, but also produces some very good and interesting wines.
